Autumn 2026 Hair Trends – Our Stylists’ Picks

Autumn 2026 Hair Trends – Our Stylists’ Picks

There's something about autumn that makes you want to change your hair. Maybe it's the richer colours, the return to cosy layers and knitwear, or simply that feeling that it's time for a little refresh.

At Hair Lab Salons in Basingstoke and Woking, our stylists love keeping up with what's happening in hair, but we're also big believers that a trend only works when it's right for you. Your hair type, colouring, lifestyle and how much time you want to spend styling it all make a difference.

So, what are we loving for autumn 2026? Here are some of the cuts, colours and techniques we're looking forward to creating this season.

Warm Copper, Auburn & Red Tones

Autumn and warm hair colour go hand in hand, and this year we're seeing plenty of interest in coppers, auburns and richer red tones.

From soft, natural-looking copper to deeper auburn and more vibrant reds, there's plenty of room to make this trend your own. A warmer tone doesn't necessarily mean a dramatic colour change either. Subtle copper pieces can be added as highlights or opt for a red-toned gloss to give your existing colour a completely different feel.

If you're thinking about going red for autumn, a consultation is the perfect place to start. The right shade will depend on your starting colour, skin tone, hair condition and how much maintenance you're happy with.

Glossy Brunettes With Depth

Brunette hair is getting richer for autumn, with chocolate, mocha, chestnut and caramel tones creating plenty of depth and shine.

We're particularly loving brunettes that aren't just one flat shade. Carefully placed lighter or darker pieces can add dimension and movement as can balayage, while a gloss can enhance the overall finish and leave the hair looking beautifully reflective.

This can also be a great option if you've been blonde and fancy moving towards something deeper for the autumn months. Rather than simply choosing a darker colour, your stylist can talk you through the best way to transition your hair while considering its existing colour and condition.

Bobs With Shape & Movement

The bob isn't going anywhere. For autumn 2026, we're seeing plenty of variations on the classic bob, from sharp and polished to softer, more textured shapes.

A jaw-length bob can create a strong, clean silhouette, while a longer bob or lob gives you more versatility. Subtle graduation, movement through the ends or a softer finish can completely change the feel of the cut.

The important thing is choosing a shape that works with your hair rather than simply copying a trend. Your stylist can look at your hair type, face shape and how you normally wear your hair before deciding which version will work best.

Beautiful, Soft Layers & Face Framing Hair cut carried out at hair lab salons

Soft Layers & Face-Framing

If you're not ready for a big chop, adding layers can be a much easier way to change your look.

Soft layers and face-framing pieces can create movement around the face and give longer hair a lighter, more effortless feel. They can also work particularly well when you want volume and movement without losing too much length.

For autumn, we're loving layers that look natural rather than overly structured — hair that moves rather than sitting in a perfectly fixed shape.

More Dimension, Less Maintenance

One of the biggest themes we're seeing across hair colour is the move towards beautiful hair that is easier to maintain.

Techniques such as balayage, root melts, softer highlights and dimensional colour can create depth without giving you a harsh regrowth line. This means your colour can continue to look good as it grows out, with less frequent appointments needed than some more high-maintenance colour changes.

It's particularly useful if you want your hair to look polished but don't want to be tied to regular root appointments.

Which Autumn Hair Trend Is Right For You?

You might have a saved folder full of hair inspiration, but that doesn't necessarily mean every look will work exactly the same way on your hair. Bring your favourite photos along to your appointment and we'll talk through what you like about them, what could work for your hair and whether the colour, cut or technique needs adapting.

Whether you're considering a complete colour transformation, a new cut or simply want to add some warmth and movement, our stylists at Hair Lab can help you find an autumn look that feels like you.
