New-Year-Resolutions-2016-270x300We all started 2016 with good intentions, but will you stick to your New Year resolution?

Maybe it’s time to be more realistic and choose a resolution that you can actually keep!  Don’t try exercising seven days a week at the gym, keep to a sensible plan, say 2 to 3 times per week and you may well reach your goal.

You might decide to eat healthily or join a slimming club, exercise more, visit family and friends more often, quit smoking or drink less – sadly some studies show that by the first week in February most of us have already given up!

So, what can we do to stick to our goals?   We’ve taken advice from the American Psychological Association to help you keep your New Year’s resolutions.  We wish you good luck in 2016!

How to Keep Your New Year Resolution

Do not despair! According to the American Psychological Association, you can stick to your New Year’s resolution by following these steps:

Start out with just one resolution. If you try and focus your energy on changing just one aspect of your life, your chances of success will be even greater.

Reward yourself. Give yourself a small reward whenever you achieve a goal, this will help maintain your motivation and give you a sense of progress.

Expect to revert to your old habits from time to time, but don’t despair. Treat any failure as a temporary setback rather than a reason to give up altogether.

Try for a new resolution in 2016.  Revisiting resolutions you didn’t achieve before could lead to frustration and disappointment.

Think about what’s really important to you. You don’t have to follow the crowd and go with the usual resolutions.

Don’t give up! Try not to be too hard on yourself just because you ate and enjoyed that cream cake. Recover from your treat and get back on track, you will be much happier with yourself.
