Allergy Alert Testing (AAT)
An allergy alert (AAT) test is required before all hair colouring services at Hair Lab to allow us to check for sensitivity and reactions to the hair colouring products that we use. We offer free Allergy Alert Tests (also known as skin testing and patch testing) in our salon. You will need to make an appointment to attend the salon at least 48 hours before your hair colour service for your test.
While we appreciate this may be an inconvenience, it is important we follow the correct safety procedures for your safety and peace of mind of both clients & stylists. Reactions to hair colour can be serious and even life threatening. There are strict guidelines from manufacturers, insurers, industry bodies around using hair colour.
We will apply a small amount of colour formula behind your ear, this should be left untouched for at least 48 hours. Our highly skilled colourists will explain what a positive reaction can look like. Should you experience any signs of irritation, reddening, swelling, inflammation or itching, please contact us straight away. If you develop symptoms that make you unwell, please contact a medical professional.

I’ve Visited Hair Lab Before - Do I Still Need A Test?
Yes, you do. We are committed to your safety & require all new & returning clients to have a test. You must also be tested if you have had COVID-19, the COVID Vaccine or it’s been over 6 months since your last colour service. It is important we follow guidelines and check regular for possible reactions regularly as people can become sensitive to hair colour at any point in their lives for a number of different reasons.
